The African Models Exhibition 2017: HighlightsBy Olaide Banjo on August 3, 2017

Lekki Astoria Events Centre, Lagos welcomed models from African countries like Ghana, Togo, Coté D’Ivoire, Benin, Cameroon, Mali and of course, Nigeria on the 25th of June, 2017 for the African Models Exhibition organized by the Afrik Diary.

The organization is all about showcasing beauty, culture, fashion and everything African creativity related.
The exhibition was set to acknowledge the beauty of the African culture and also give a platform to new modelling acts to become global brand ambassadors. Prior to D-day, some models and designers had a good time getting together at the Citilodge Hotel pool and relaxing after a long journey to Lagos.

The venue had lots of fashion lovers and enthusiasts as well as spectacular fashion pieces for exhibition. The models took turns to walk on the runway in pieces by African designers- F2K (Togo), Experienza (Cameroon), VUVU (Cameroon), DOF (Nigeria), Mia by Naomi (Nigeria), Bettos Terrain (Nigeria), Avant Garde (Nigeria) and Brutes Clothing (Nigeria).

During the show, winners were announced by Dennis Okike and Labelle Vitien for emerging in the award categories:

  • Best Female Model of the Year (Lucie Audrey Meneng from Cameroon)
  • Best Male Model of the Year (Nyeck Koffi Baker from Cote D’Ivoire)
  • Fast Rising Model of the Year (Elodie Ingrid Bassama from Cameroon)
  • Best Modelling Agency of the Year (Olympian House International from Cameroon)
  • Best Makeover of the Year (Yayra makeover from Ghana)
  • Best Fashion Designer of the Year (Voule Yaovi Marc Fo Kiki from Togo)

Some of the designs worn include – Nyeck Koffi Baker was on F2K, Elodie Ingrid Bassama on VUVU, Lucie Audrey Meneng also on VUVU, Yayra wore her own designs and so did Olympian House International. Voule Yaovi Fo Kiki is the CEO of F2K and so he wore his designs too.
Guest performances by Tolu MTN Project Fame, Michael Meme from Voice of Africa and Paul Raven of Hennessy Artistry.
