Something something about whenever you wake up is your own morning, abi?

So, Q3 is over, and this is all you need to know about how it went for Ahmad’s Journal! (Imagine a theme song/intro tune plays here. See your imagination, gosh, so powerful.)

Welcome, potential partners, dear readers, and amebo lovers, to another exciting edition of Notes From Ahmad’s Journal, where we serve you a buffet of everything we’ve done this quarter. We’ll discuss our most significant milestones, the fun and not-so-fun highlights, and the stories that kept readers talking. Insights o, laughs o, or behind-the-scenes sneak peeks o, we’ve got you covered. But, most importantly, this recap celebrates our journey and the connections we’re building with our community. But, most importantly, this recap celebrates our journey and the connections we’re building with our community.

Doesn't just the thought of it make you wanna boogie?

Anyway, dears, grab your favourite snack, settle in, and let’s review all that made this quarter one to remember.

Performance Overview

Q3 has been a dream, and whether we’ve been floating on clouds or running from monsters, you’ll know soon.

We smashed some goals, and sometimes the goals did the smashing (get your mind out of the gutter), but, regardless, let's celebrate the wins and relive the moments that made this quarter unforgettable.

Story Spotlight: Here's What We Found This Quarter

This quarter, we switched things up a bit and changed our performance metrics. With our new system, we started recording more quality engagement and interaction with our stories. It’s safe to say we kept things very profesh and cutesy this quarter.

But we didn’t stop there—we wanted to know our reader’s churchmind. What do they really want to see?

And our readers were not shy; na so so relationship gist and money talk.

So, we listened (because we love them), and boom, we served up our Situationship article “It’s Complicated: Three Nigerian Youths Unpack the Messy World of Situationships.” This was a hit on every platform. From hilarious confessions to piping hot takes, our community drank all the tea we spilt.

Plus, our Glow-Up article - “Give Your Enemies Sleepless Nights by Following Our (Realistic) 30-Day Glow-Up Guide” - made serious waves on Instagram, with all those tips and actionable steps. Our people on the gram were seriously hungry to improve both their physical and mental aesthetics.

We’re glad our community vibed with it. Do you see why we (you and us) are a forever deal?

Mhm.

Channel Highlights

Instagram

Oh, what a time we’ve had on Instagram! We’ve soared past our Q2 stats with over 10K views and reached 3.6K accounts—that’s an increase of 80%!

We really can't help it. When you're us, you're us. Three gbosa for us.

Thank you to everyone who liked, commented on, and shared. You are all the real MVPs!

Notable Commentary

When we asked our community what they would do if their partner surprised them with a BBL appointment as a birthday gift, some maintained that their partner would never do such, but some asked the real, hard-hitting, philosophical questions like “Shey my boyfriend dey craze?”, while some came up with very….interesting compromises - cue, above.

Love o.

This didn’t even come as a surprise because Nigeria is doing everybody, but, as usual, we were rolling at some replies. From tipping everyone to giving bikemen extra money, we loved reading responses from our community. Maybe Nigeria can be great again…

Community Champions

When we talk about people who stood with us as the sun shone on our heads - no sunscreen, mind you - we have to give it to these troopers.

This is us saying a fat thank you to them for being our MVPs this quarter!

Twitter

Our Twitter page had a flurry of activities this quarter, and it’s safe to say we’ve seen it all, from sensitive conversations about sexual assault to silly ones about situationships and how, mysteriously, nobody is in them, but everyone has stories for days.

Yimu.

Whether the mood was serious or silly, our community showed up, and we loved every minute!

So, here are some memorable moments from our Twitter page that we loved, because sharing is caring.

The Situationship Wahala

First off, a community fave and one of our most popular polls

Turns out most of our community wasn’t here for the games! A whopping 76.8% said, ‘Stop making plans with them’ (and honestly, yes). Only 13.5% were brave enough to call them out, and an even smaller group decided to either let it slide or make new plans without them.

This poll had us all nodding in agreement while simultaneously laughing at the very relatable chaos that was going on. The quotes were even funnier.

Anyway, the people have spoken—2024 is not the year for flaky situationships, please! The people are loving themselves this year o. Self-care gurus, now is your time.

Literary approval on our first-ever book review

We took a big leap into new territory this quarter by publishing our first-ever book review! We wrote about body image and societal perceptions of said image while using Damilare Kuku’s book as a vehicle.

The best part? We received an official stamp of approval from the author herself!

If you haven’t read the review yet, don’t just run, please, fly to read it.

This is also a not-so-subtle way of reminding you wordsmiths that your work - written and otherwise - will always have a place on our dining table. Trying to put the masses on to your creations? Reach out dear, let's become the new bread and butter. We’re here for your hustle, the same way you are for ours.

Anyway, our review also got a couple of hilarious quotes on our What would you do? poll.

Protest worthy: Our community's most ridiculous causes

Inflation in Nigeria is holding everyone by the neck—literally and figuratively. With the prices of everything in the country skyrocketing, it’s no wonder frustrations are bubbling over into some truly hilarious protest ideas.

But let’s be real, In a world where everyday essentials cost an arm and a leg, who wouldn’t want to march for the right to afford books, or for small chivita to be ₦900 again?

So, we asked our Twitter community to share one thing others might find ridiculous but they are willing to protest about. The answers were pure gold!

Community Champions

As we wrap up Q3, we want to take a moment to thank each of you for your incredible support and contributions! Your passion, creativity, and dedication have truly helped us grow our community and elevate our brand.

You’re the realest OGs.

Threads

Threads is like that last born who needs special attention. The baby of the house.

In Q3, we levelled up with over 1000 interactions, a solid boost from our Q2 numbers. Considering the app's recent launch, the competitive landscape, and the size of our account, we’re pretty proud of this glow-up.

This is where you start clapping…

Our post seeking out our African community was a stellar experience for us.

Our mission, as always, is to keep building our Nigerian and African audience. We're committed to engaging, supporting and connecting with even more people (we can't help it, we’re Nigerian) and we can’t wait to see these numbers rise even higher next quarter!

Of course, we can't forget our Threads MVPs. Thank you for keeping up with us!

Lessons Learned, Future Goals and Closing Thoughts

Lessons Learned

We've had an amazing Q3 with reach and engagement, which tells us that our content is resonating with our audience.

We've also seen a respectable 3x increase in audio listens and a 10x increase poll respondents, which shows that our growing community enjoys interactive content.

However, we have some work to do convincing Gen-Z to read for a little longer.

Future Goals

We want to understand our readers’ preferences better. So, in Q4, we'll work on improving our storytelling and covering topics our readers love, from relationships to finances to everyday Nigerian life.

We also want to work with businesses looking to grow in Q4 and beyond. Don’t be too demure. Reach out! At the end of the day, we’re all interested in the same thing: growth.

Sneak peek: We have just released a juicy piece on how Nigerian Gen-Z are dealing with heartbreak and another about the experience of leaving religion while living in Nigeria…

Closing Thoughts

Anyway, we just want to say a huge thank you to our community for rocking with us this quarter! The support, comments, shares, and interactions mean the world to us.

Seriously.

So, what do you want to see more of next quarter? What can we do better, and how can we keep things fresh and exciting for you? Let us know because, at the end of the day, two heads are better than one.

Tell us below!

Here’s to even more wins ahead! 🥂(if you don't have champagne to toast, water is enough, dearest) Thank you!

And to Q3 we say:
